Awareness Ribbon Charms
History of the Awareness Ribbon Charms
Recently, in the 1970's, Penelope Laingen tied a yellow ribbon around an oak tree to bring awareness to her husband being held hostage in Iran. In the 1980's during the Tony Awards, a red ribbon was worn to symbolize awareness and support for AIDS. In the 1990's the New York Times declared 1992 “The Year of the Ribbon”. Also in the 1990's the Susan G Komen foundation tried unsuccessfully to trademark the pink ribbon.
Ribbons and ribbon charms are a symbolic and silent way to bring awareness to many issues and organizations.
All of my cancer awareness ribbon charms are available to add to any of my cancer awareness bracelets.
The last pink ribbon charm shown is too big for a bracelet but can be added to a necklace.
